On Decay Centrality
نویسنده
چکیده
We establish a relationship between decay centrality and two widely used and computationally cheaper measures of centrality, namely degree and closeness. We show that for low values of the decay parameter the nodes with maximum decay centrality also have maximum degree, whereas for high values of the decay parameter they also maximize closeness. For intermediate values, we provide sufficient conditions that allow the comparison of decay centrality of different nodes and we show via numerical simulations that in the vast majority of networks, the nodes with maximum decay centrality are characterized by a threshold on the decay parameter below which they belong to the set of nodes with maximum degree and above which they belong to the set of nodes with maximum closeness. We also propose a simple rule of thumb that ensures a nearly optimal choice with very high probability. JEL Classification: C15, C63, D85

A Binary Search Algorithm for Correlation Study of Decay Centrality vs. Degree Centrality and Closeness Centrality
Results of correlation study (using Pearson's correlation coefficient, PCC) between decay centrality (DEC) vs. degree centrality (DEG) and closeness centrality (CLC) for a suite of 48 real-world networks indicate an interesting trend: PCC(DEC, DEG) decreases with increase in the decay parameter δ (0 < δ < 1) and PCC(DEC, CLC) decreases with decrease in δ. We make use of this trend of monotonic ...
متن کاملNetwork evolution based on centrality.
We study the evolution of networks when the creation and decay of links are based on the position of nodes in the network measured by their centrality. We show that the same network dynamics arise under various centrality measures, and solve analytically the network evolution. During the complete evolution, the network is characterized by nestedness: the neighborhood of a node is contained in t...
متن کاملCentrality Dependence of J/ψ Production in Au+Au and Cu+Cu Collisions by the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC
J/ψ production has been measured in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) during 2004 and 2005, respectively, at mid-rapidity (|η| ≤ 0.35) via J/ψ → ee decay and at forward rapidity (1.2 ≤ |η| ≤ 2.2) via J/ψ → μμ decay. The nuclear modification factor (RAA) of J/ψ is presented as a function of the collision centralit...
متن کاملThe Insider-Outsider Model Reexamined
In this note we introduce different levels of decay in the Goyal, Galeotti and Kamphorst (GGK) insider-outsider model of network formation. First, we deal with situations where the amount of decay is sufficiently low to avoid superfluous connections in strict Nash networks and we examine the architectures of strict Nash networks. We show that centrality and small diameter are robust features of...
متن کاملE Scomparin for the NA60 Collaboration‡
The NA60 experiment studies dimuon production in In-In and p-A collisions at the CERN SPS. We report recent results on J/ψ production, measured through its muon pair decay. As a function of centrality, we show that in In-In the J/ψ yield is suppressed beyond expectations from nuclear absorption. We present also for the first time results on J/ψ production in p-A collisions at 158 GeV, the same ...
